Obituary: Bill Harper (1953 - 2024)
Bill Harper, 71, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New York to the late William Harper and Elizabeth Metcalf, Bill lived a vibrant life that took him to various parts of the country including Alabama, New York, and Arizona. He had a passion for painting and working on cars, skills he enjoyed sharing with others. Bill had a gregarious nature, always eager to meet new people, spend time with friends, enjoy a few beers, and take to the open road on his motorcycle. He was known for his volunteer work at the local American Legion and for his helpful presence in the neighborhood.
Bill cherished his time with his wife Michelle, with whom he loved traveling and exploring different places.
He is survived by his beloved wife Michelle Harper; his children Alex Maynard, Dennis Harper, Michelle Wells, Billie Lynn Harper, Amber Lazzell, Tiffanny Lazzell, and Norma Carter; his stepmother Audrey Brown; and siblings Keith Perkins, Darlene Carney, Theresa Zielinski, and Tony Harper. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his siblings Sandra Carney, Jim Harper, and Rudy Harper, as well as his companion Marilyn Davis.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Mobile Funeral Home, 690 Zeigler Circle W, Mobile, AL 36608. Family will be received at 11 am, friends at 12 pm, with the service to begin at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in Bill’s memory.
