Clarence Nelson, Jr. Obituary

Clarence Richard Nelson Jr. 64, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at his sister Dee Dee’s home.

Ricky was an enthusiast of many things. He believed in God and considered himself a Christian. He also accepted the theory of evolution and felt science and faith went hand in hand.

Ricky was born in Mobile, Alabama to Helen Prater-Nelson and his namesake, Clarence Richard Nelson Sr. Ricky lived with his parents until their divorce and then opted to couch surf with a variety of family and friends until he was capable of being self-sufficient.

Ricky received his high school diploma and attended some college, but most of his education came from self-learning. When he was interested in a topic or skill, he emersed himself in the subject or task to become well informed and proficient at many things. For example, he could identify any type of rock and its connection to the Earth’s history, structure, and materials.

Ricky was also able to make his passion for SCUBA into his primary vocation. Ricky love being in and under the water. After becoming a certified diver, he discovered he could live his vocation as a certified commercial diver. The job allowed him to explore depths below the water’s surface that most people never have the opportunity to explore or see. Ricky continued as a commercial diver until an accident while working a boat salvage job ended his career and kept him above the surface like most other humans.

Ricky was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Richard, and his sister Leigh.

Ricky leaves behind his daughters Sommer and Brianna; his grandchildren Jordyn, Ryland, Cameron, Colton, Kilyer, and Jameson.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024 beginning at 1:00 pm at the Brannan Family Pond located directly across from 4130 Frank Maples Rd., Eight Mile, AL. Look for the sign marker near the pond area entrance.
