Dawn Shurden Bufkin, a resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2022, at home after a long illness. She was 75 years old. Dawn was born in Jackson, Miss. She moved to Mobile as a child, where she lived the rest of her life.
Dawn was married for 55 years to her dear husband, Sidney Bufkin. She is survived by two daughters, Celine Bufkin (Patrick Crosby) and Allison (Jason) Gladney; granddaughter, Brooke Evans; great-granddaughter, Oakley; grandson, Brody Evans; sisters, Day (W.C.) Gafford and Eve (Murry) Magness; sister-in-law, Alison Shurden; and several nieces and nephews.
Dawn is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Robert Shurden, and her brother, Knight Shurden, all of Mobile.
Dawn attended Leinkauf Elementary School and Barton Academy. Then she attended Murphy High School, where she was a cheerleader and a member of Delta Beta Sigma sorority. After high school, Dawn worked at Merchants National Bank downtown and was introduced by a friend to the dashing Sidney Bufkin. They married in July 1966. She was involved in her neighborhood Historic Preservation Society, her daughters' school PTAs, the Dominos Mardi Gras Mystic society, and had tons of fun working as a Boutique Lady at Stein Mart. Dawn was known to all as a vibrant personality with a mischievous sense of humor, and she loved Auburn sports.
Dawn will be memorialized in a small, private ceremony.
