Dennis Pate Obituary

Dennis Walter Pate was born on November 3, 1949 in Mobile, AL on the third rock from the sun.  Walt, as he was known to his friends, passed away suddenly on the afternoon of June 10, 2022. He was 72 years old and had a large loving family.

Walt spent his childhood years growing up in Prichard, Alabama with his father Daddy Bud, mother Rose and two brothers. Following his parents passing, he went to live at Catholic Boys Home where he was noted for his excellent tuba playing skills with the CBH Strutters. Upon graduating from McGill Institute, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served on the atomic demolitions units in Germany during the late 1960’s. Although he was injured during his service, Walt was always very proud of his time serving his country.

Walt was a well-read entrepreneur. Always the survivor, he ran several businesses over thirty years while providing a better life for his family. He possessed the rare combination of fabrication acumen, shrewd negotiation, and no-nonsense reason. His ability to decompose complex designs into tangible solutions was second to none. He most recently worked at Persons Services Corporation as a senior project manager. His abilities allowed him to become a well-traveled man with a unique perspective whose influence was felt by many.

Walt was an avid traveler who was happiest when traveling the world with his wife and friends. When he was not traveling, he could be found with his family where he went by many names. Walter, Walt, Wally, Brother, Husband, Dad, Peepaw, or Papa always lit up the room and will be sorely missed.  He was father to some and a dad to many for which there is no replacement.

Walt is survived by a loving family: the love of his life, Pam; his children, Alex (Stephanie), Adam (Brandi), Emily (Eddie), Matt (Brittany), and Chris (Stefanie); his grandchildren, Jacob, Caitlyn, Haley, Katie, Zoey, Zachary, Sam, and Kennedy; his siblings, Joe, Muggins, Larry, and Jim; beloved nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Jeff), Jim Jr. (Kerri), Rachel, Jeffery (deceased); beloved great nephews, Tyler (Amanda) and Colin; and other extended family.

Memorial services will be a private family ceremony. Donations can be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior project.
