Donald Sibley Glennon Obituary
Donald Sibley Glennon, was born in Mobile on August 26, 1936 to John Francis Glennon, Jr., and Florence Elizabeth Sikes Glennon. He passed away on September 1, 2026 soon after celebrating his ninetieth birthday.
He was popular in his high school years as one of the best roller skate dancers in Moss Point, MS. He enjoyed working on cars with his dad and customizing 1950 - 1960 automobiles. His love for driving and operating heavy equipment started in high school. As a High School Senior he drove the school bus for students and for the football team.
He proudly served as a Private First Class in the US Army at AUS CMLC (Chemical Corps) in Germany in 1960 - 61. There he met and served with Elvis Presley and later met him again at stateside concerts. He loved listening to Elvis Presley music and was a lifelong fan.
After his time serving in Germany and in the Army Reserves in New Orleans, Don drove for Deaton Truck Line and Georgia-Florida-Alabama Truck Lines owning his own 18-wheel semi-trailer truck. He kept his Commercial Drivers License (CDL) all of his life and had an unblemished driving record. After seven years of truck driving, he started working at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula as a pipe-fitter (like his father) and was promoted to a 25-ton crane operator. He worked for Ingalls from 1970-1996. While working for Ingalls, he met ComedianMusician Ray Stevens during boat christenings and enjoyed his songs and entertainment. Throughout his life he farmed and raised cattle. He also worked and owned the Point O Pines Fish Camp at Moss Point, Mississippi.
While he was in the US Army, he met his wife of sixty-five years Ingrid P. Boenisch of Germany. They married in Moss Point, Mississippi in 1961. He is survived by his wife Ingrid and children, Michael Glennon (Shala) of Tullahoma, Tennessee and Rebecca Glennon of Fairhope, Alabama. His grandchildren are John Glennon (Emily) of Estill Springs, Tennessee and James Zapata of Fairhope, Alabama. Don’s brother, Robert Glennon (Rita) of Fairhope also survive and cherish his memory along with Don’s nephews, Ashley Glennon (Suzanne) of Seattle, Washington, and Alan Glennon (Rhonda) of Daly City, California.
Don attended Kreole Methodist Church as a youngster and St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Grand Bay after marriage.
Don had many friends and acquaintances in the Moss Point Pascagoula, Mississippi area and had many wonderful memories of shared time together.
When asked recently what a perfect day might be for him—he liked simple pleasures like mowing his grass fields, fried shrimp, and listening to Elvis. He cut grass at his home for the last time on April 30th at 89 years old.
Don’s service with military honors and burial will be held on Monday, September 14 at 1:00 pm at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 34904 State Highway 225, Spanish Fort, Alabama.
