Freddie Jones Obituary

Freddie Herman Jones  age 80, died Wednesday, November 27, 2024, with his family at his side, after a lengthy illness.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn Geer Jones and William Herman Jones; his brother, Jimmy William Jones; and his son-in-law, David Ernest Bradley.  Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Kathy McBryde Jones; two daughters, Kelly Jones Bradley and Leigh Jones (Joe) Flynn; three grandchildren, Kate Bradley (John David) Anderson, Paul Frederick Bradley, and Anna Leigh Flynn; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Caroline Anderson, all of Mobile; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dot and Bill Grimes of Cordele, GA; beloved, lifelong friends, Beverly and Eddie Jones of Mobile; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. 

Freddie was born in Birmingham on July 31, 1944, and their family moved to Mobile in the early 1950’s.  He graduated from University Military School in 1962, Marion Military Institute in 1964, Mobile College in 1967 (a member of their charter class), Spring Hill College - Executive Development School in 1969, Louisiana State University - Graduate School of Banking of the South in 1974, and University of Colorado - Graduate School of Bank Marketing in 1979.

He was a member of Ashland Place United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees.  Freddie began his banking career in 1967 at American National Bank & Trust Company, later merging with AmSouth Bank, NA, Vice President and Regional Marketing Director.  In 1987, he joined Barnett Bank of Northwest Florida as Vice President and was responsible for the bank’s retail and corporate marketing programs.  In 1994, he joined First City Bank of Florida, Senior Vice President and head of Retail Banking and Marketing.  Freddie retired in 2009, and he and Kathy moved home to Mobile.  During his career, he was extremely active in local civic and professional organizations:  Mobile Jaycees, past VP and Board Member; Crichton Optimist Club, past President; March of Dimes, past Campaign Director and Board Member; Bank Marketing Association, Past VP and Board Member; American Institute of Banking, Marketing Instructor; Florida Bankers Association, Florida Banker of the Year, 1991; served on the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce in various capacities.  He was a long-time member and past officer of a mystic society and loved sharing the Mobile Mardi Gras experience with newcomers.  Freddie also loved sports, playing basketball and baseball in high school, baseball at Mobile College, and men’s softball at Sage Park.  Freddie loved life and loved his family and friends so well.  He will be greatly missed.  A memorial service will be held from Ashland Place United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.  The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 10:00 a.m. until service time.  Memorial donations may be in made in Freddie’s memory to March of Dimes, https://www.marchofdimes.org or 452 Government Street Suite B, Mobile, AL 36602.
