George Franklin Autrey, Sr Obituary

George Franklin Autrey, Sr., 81, of Wilmer, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026.

Born on June 2, 1945, George lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and love for his family. As the lifelong owner and operator of D & G Masonry, he built more than brick and stone—he built a reputation for honesty, craftsmanship, and perseverance that earned the respect of everyone who knew him.

George found his greatest joy outside of work, whether he was collecting antiques, deer dog hunting, or traveling. Tennessee held a special place in his heart, and he always looked forward to making the trip. Above all else, he cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The memories they shared together will remain a lasting testament to the love he had for his family.

He is survived by his son, George Autrey, Jr. (Angie); his daughter, Janie Autrey; his grandchildren, Jerry Lee (Samantha), Corey Autrey, Franklin Autrey (Kaitlyn), and Christina Smith; his great-grandchildren, Kyler, Cullen, Journey, Harley, Sadie, Lana, Christian, Harlene, and Cole; his sisters, Judy Fant, Annett Hartley, and Cathy Maples; and his brother, Harold Autrey.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Autrey and Nanny Kate Autrey; and by his siblings, Tommy Autrey, Bonnie Nowling, Ruby Autrey, Bobby Autrey, Edith Hartley, and James Autrey.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate George’s life at Mobile Funeral Home, 690 Zeigler Circle West, Mobile, Alabama.

A private family visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., followed by public visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Mobile Funeral Home.

A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Witch Creek Cemetery in Campbell, Alabama, just outside of Coffeeville.

George will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his love of the outdoors, his passion for collecting antiques, his enjoyment of traveling—especially to Tennessee—and, most importantly, the deep love he had for his family. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. His legacy lives on through the generations who were blessed to know and love him, and he will be deeply missed by all.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” — Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
