Helen Ruth Yancey Bishop, a resident of Wilmer, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023. She was 69 years old. Helen was a Registered Nurse with a long career, spending most of it working at Ascension Providence Hospital. After retiring from Providence in July 2018, Helen went to work for the Mobile County Health Department in January 2021, working as a COVID-19 Nurse, vaccinating the community.
Helen enjoyed her 5 grandchildren, Zoey, Kaiya, William, Carter and John. She loved to swim in her pool and taught all her grandchildren how to swim. Helen loved to read and shared her love of reading with her grandchildren.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Orell and Allie Ruth Yancey; daughter-in-law, Laura Bishop; and 7 of her siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 47 years, Leonard Bishop. She is survived by her son, Benjamin Bishop; daughter, Amy Rosson (Ken Aikens); grandchildren, Zoey, William, Carter, and John Bishop, and Kaiya Rosson; sisters, Katherine Heckeroth, and Margarette Gantz (Mike); brother, Allen Yancey (Anita); numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and other family and friends.
In lieu of a funeral and burial service, a memorial will be held in Helen’s honor in September 2023 near her birthday. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Ascension Providence Hospital, Dr. Kathleen Webster, and the doctors at Pulmonology Associates for their knowledge and expertise while Helen was under their care.
