Hugh Cowart Obituary

Hugh H. Cowart,  a native and life resident of Mobile, AL passed away on Thursday February 22, 2024. He worked for International Paper Co., Woodlands Division in Mobile and Natchez for 37 years until he retired. Hugh also worked for Enterprise Rent a Car as a Lead Driver for 20 years. Hugh married Myrtle Jean Morris at St. Matthews Rectory September 7, 1951. He was a graduate of McGill Institute, Class of 1949. Hugh was a Charter member and served on the first Parish Council of St. Dominic Catholic Church. He also served the parish for many years as an Usher, Finance Committee, Tithe program and numerous committees. Hugh was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Mrs. Jean Cowart, his parents Fred and Louisa Cowart, his siblings: Marguerite Rodgers, Robert Cowart, Elizabeth C. Hall, Mable C. Shewmake, Cornelius Cowart, Thomas (Buck) Cowart, Dolores C. Knapp and Louise C. Mooney. Survived by his Children, Darren (Ginger) Cowart of Natchez, MS and Michele Cowart (Pat) Smith. his grandchildren; Jacob (LeAnn) Cowart, Jordan Cowart of Madison, MS, Haley Manry, Alex (Devin) Dunaway Vidalia, LA; Great Grandchildren; Taylor Cowart, Walter and Emmett Dunaway. 

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 9:30am to 11:00am in the Murphy Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am at St. Dominic Catholic Church, burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
