James Howell Carpenter, Jr., known to friends, family, and colleagues as Jim or Jamie, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at age 64. He passed away at home surrounded by family. He was born January 26, 1958 in Mobile, Alabama to James and Mavis Carpenter.
James began working as a teenager at Tensaw River Dock before beginning a career in shipbuilding. He spent 20 years working in civil service with the Navy in the shipbuilding industry. James raced dirt bikes as a young man and later rode the Tail of the Dragon. In later years, he enjoyed riding dirt bikes with his children and grandchildren at Carpenter Station. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, spending time with his family, and watching football and movies. James had a wealth of knowledge about many things and loved sharing what he knew with others. He never met a stranger and had a wonderful sense of humor.
James is survived by his wife of 42 years, Deborah Carpenter of Semmes, Alabama; son, James H. Carpenter, III (Amanda) of Daphne, Alabama; son, Joshua Carpenter (Jasmine) of Spanish Fort, Alabama; and five grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mavis Carpenter of Mobile, Alabama.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Hall Cemetery located at 9126 CR-7 Bay Minette, AL 36507. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wounded Warrior Project.
