James Hicks Obituary

James "Jimmy" Oscar Hicks, born on November 30, 1946, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, at the age of 78. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jimmy touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others.

Jimmy was a proud Army veteran who served his country honorably. Following his military service, he dedicated his professional career to Scott Paper Company, where his hard work and loyalty earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. After years of service, he retired, allowing him to fully embrace his many passions and spend more time with family and friends.

Jimmy was a man of remarkable talents and boundless curiosity. His interests were as varied as they were impressive, encompassing photography, traveling, model airplane building and flying, lapidary, jewelry making, ham radio, astronomy, tatting, and crocheting. His knowledge was vast, and he loved sharing it with those around him, always eager to teach and inspire.

Beyond his hobbies, Jimmy's true legacy lies in his kindness and generosity. He was the first to arrive when someone needed help and never hesitated to offer his time, skills, or a comforting word. His selflessness was evident in the care and devotion he showed to his mother and mother-in-law, a commitment that will be forever remembered and cherished by his family. Jimmy's compassion and willingness to lend a hand were constants in his life, earning him the deep respect and gratitude of all who knew him.

Jimmy also found joy in the simple moments spent with family and friends. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Susan L. Hicks, with whom he shared a bond built on love, trust, and shared adventures. As a father and grandfather, Jimmy's pride in his family was evident in every story he told and every moment he spent with them. His family brought immense joy to his life, and he never missed an opportunity to support and encourage them.

Jimmy's legacy lives on in the hearts of those who survive him: his wife, Susan L. Hicks; his daughter, Laura Hicks Lose; granddaughter, Jasmine Lose; grandson, Hunter Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Adella Hicks, Robert and Betsy Hicks, Mark Jeffery and Virginia Hicks; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Hossein Ali Mohandessi; brother-in-law, Joe "Blue" Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward his spirit of generosity and love. Jimmy was preceded in death by his son, Michael Hicks.

A celebration of Jimmy's life took place on March 3, bringing together family and friends to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor, reflecting Jimmy's lifelong commitment to helping others.

James Oscar Hicks will be profoundly missed but forever remembered for his generous heart, his many talents, and the love he shared with all who were fortunate enough to know him.
