Jeffrey Brian Darst, born in Barstow, California, June 27, 1963, was the third son to Glenn and Nancy Darst, who later would adopt a daughter as well. As a Marine brat, Jeff’s childhood memories included the California coastline, Norman, Oklahoma, Marianna, Florida, and finally, Mobile, Alabama, where he moved in eighth grade with his family and stayed until he graduated from golf school.
Jeff was a PGA class A certified golf instructor. One thing that was readily seen in Jeff, when he determined to accomplish something, he did and did it well. Jeff’s golf instruction career included PGA pro players, young students (including state champions), down to the late beginner. He also instructed for the WPGA.
Jeff transitioned to a career in IT. His last position was with SSA Marine and Tideworks, where his colleagues called him “friend” and have expressed how much his IT prowess and friendship, and lively breakroom chatter will be missed.
Jeff spent his free time on the golf course and playing guitar.
Jeff and his ex-wife (married 21 years), Heidi, had six children together: Abby, Phillip, Houston, Matthew, Gregory, and Charlie. His survivors rejoice knowing Jeff is reunited with his late parents and brother, Philip, as well as the daughter he and Heidi lost in womb, Meredith.
Jeff is also survived by his Aunt Carol Polk of Norman, Oklahoma; his siblings, Eric and Stephanie Darst of Mobile, AL, and Julianna Darst of Oklahoma; Aunt, Leslie (Jeff) Miller of Foley, AL; Uncle, Dana (Bunny) Knight of Kittery Point, ME; nephews; nieces; cousins; and may other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 11am Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Harvest Church in Mobile, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for support to be given to Jesus Way India or Jesus Way Jamaica. Both Jeff and Heidi love and trust the founders of these ministries, which rescue street children from human trafficking, poverty and homelessness while providing education and housing. They also train women with employable skills, enabling them to support themselves and their children. To give, please visit https://jesuswayjam.org/ or https://www.jesuswayindia.org/ . Thank you. Grace and peace to each of you and your households.
