John Henry Brooks III, died August 13, 2022 following a brief illness. The son of John Henry Brooks, Jr.
and Lillian Joy Barnes Brooks, he was born in Pensacola and grew up in Montgomery. He graduated
from Trinity Presbyterian School in Montgomery and the University of Alabama. John married Anne
Blake Murray and moved to Mobile in 1981. He quickly became an integral part of the community. He
served in many leadership positions in his church, on community boards and in social organizations and
a mystic society. John was a former President of the Country Club of Mobile and was presently serving
as Junior Warden for Christ Church Cathedral. He was extremely generous with his time and talents;
many benefitted from his wisdom. He spent almost 40 years in the financial investment business. He
was Senior Vice-President and a Financial Advisor at Stifel Financial Corporation in Mobile. Passionate
about his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, tennis, music, entertaining and traveling. He
especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Soldier Creek.
His parents pre-deceased him. He is survived by his wife of almost 41 years, Anne Blake Brooks, his
children John H. Brooks IV (Lindsey) of Birmingham and Manson Murray Brooks of Mobile, as well as his
sister, Wendy Brooks Crew (Richard) of Birmingham and brothers Robby (Melani) Brooks and David
Brooks of Montgomery and one granddaughter, Anne Heyward Ferguson Brooks of Birmingham. He is
also survived by his loving in-laws, Marietta and Manson Murray and Marietta and Bill Urquhart of
Mobile. Nieces Marietta (Webb) Holmes of Marion, Ala. and Laura (Jay) Davison of Mobile, Mary Grace
Brooks and nephew Trenton Brooks of Montgomery survive him along with grand-nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, August 18 at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral with visitation and
reception to follow in the Chapter House. The family requests memorials be made to: Christ Church
Cathedral, 115 S. Conception St., Mobile AL 36602 or to a charity of your choice.
