John Jennings Carney, age 71, a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, April 5th, 2021. John enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a dedicated member of St Matthews Catholic Church and he was an avid supporter of McGill Toolen Catholic High School and Alabama Football. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus council 3565 and the Friendly Sons of St Patrick. John was also a longtime honorary member of a local mystic organization. John graduated from McGill Institute in 1967. He attended both Montevallo and the University of South Alabama. He was the Vice President of Southern Ornamental Security. John was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Joseph (Pete) Carney and Cecile S. Carney; brothers, Edward Phillip and Albert Joseph; and his sisters, Gladys Elain Schluter, Madeline Linda Bruno and Valerie Margaret Howell. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Sherry Rawson Carney; his daughters, Tracy Sweatt Givens, Rachel Carney Willcox (Willis), and Tara Carney Duhe; grandsons, Cullen Storm Wilson, Willis “Walker” Willcox III, and Jennings David Duhe; great granddaughter, Carlynn Grace Wilson; his sisters and brothers, Joyce Elizabeth Bowers (Michael), Mary Judith (Judy) Jordan (Carl),Raymond Michael (Janie Nye),Eugene Dowling (Jo Ann McDaniel), Brenda Eileen Lomax (Joseph), and Debra Cecile Jackson (Johnnie).
A Memorial Service will be held at St Matthews Catholic Church on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10:00am. Reception will follow in St Matthew’s Fellowship Hall.
