John Allen Hammac, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. He was 69 years old.
Throughout his life, John enjoyed many varied interests and hobbies, music and sports chief among them. An avid concert-goer, he enjoyed all genres, from the Allman Brothers Band, to Widespread Panic, to Steely Dan, and countless others. Also a gifted athlete, John transitioned from athlete and teammate in his youth to, "Coach John" as an adult. For many years, he coached and mentored young men in Chickasaw Dixie Youth Baseball, culminating in him becoming president of the league. John was a devoted fan of Alabama Crimson Tide Football and is perhaps best known for being a passionate fan of Chicago Cubs Baseball. John worked as an Engineer Tech for Mobile Area Water and Sewer Systems (MAWSS) for 25 years, retiring in 2014.
John is preceded in death by his father, Offie Allen Hammac of Bay Minette, AL and his mother, Lillie Pugh Hammac, of Brewton, AL.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Jenna Leigh Hammac, of Mobile, AL; his son, Matthew John Hammac, of Mobile, AL; his sister, Joyce Hammac Conniff, of Mobile, AL; along with a host of close friends.
