Lisa Hurt Obituary

Lisa Jo Lempke Hurt was born on March 12th, 1965 in Indianapolis, IN. She passed away on February 25th, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family and cats after fighting a downhill battle with her health for over a decade. Her passing was in line with her life's motto of being "happy, joyous, and free." Lisa was 58 years of age.

Lisa completed her master's degree in Pharmacy at Butler Univeristy in 1987 and served as a pharmacist for 25 years.

She met Barry in 1981 at the Books and Toys Department in Lazarus through her sister, Lori. They were married in 1985 and had two wonderful children together.

Lisa was a dedicated Christian whose love of Jesus was infectious. In her free time for most of her life, you would catch her with a book in her hand or a cat on her lap - she was a HUGE animal lover. She loved going on vacations with her family, going out to eat, and watching television like Law and Order or the lastest reality TV show. She was also very talkative and known to be able to talk and form a connection with anyone. She was consistently the smartest person in the room and often times the funniest. Lisa was a beacon of unconditional love and a true example of being forgiving, tolerant, accepting, and resiliant.

Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Maxine Lempke.

Lisa is survived by her ex-husband and best friend Barry Hurt, her oldest daughter Abigail Hurt (Alan) Fiers, her youngest daughter Alexa Hurt, her oldest sister Lynette (Don) Gross, her older brother David Lempke, her older sister Lori (Jeffrey) Abbott, her nieces Leah (Adam) Crockett and Lydia Abbott (Jospeh Medina fiance), her grandniece Michaela Crockett, and her grandnephew Leland Medina. She is also survived by her 8 granddogs, and many distant relatives and close friends who she touched deeply.

Her service will be held in Late March in Indianapolis and will be announced in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Asher House - an organization she followed closely and felt passionately about. You can donate at this website: www.theasherhouse.com
