Elizabeth Sharon Peterson was born on July 7, 1947 to Ellwynn and Alice Peterson in Pascagoula, Mississippi and passed away on October 18, 2025 in Mobile, Alabama. Sharon was an only child and cherished her many friendships, developing them at different phases of her life. She treasured her friends’ children and grandchildren, never forgetting a birthday or any special event in which they participated.
After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at Northeast Louisiana State College in Monroe, Louisiana she became an Assistant Band Director at Bishop Toolen High School. Later she earned a Master’s Degree in Media Communication at the University of South Alabama and worked as an Assistant Librarian and Media Specialist at McGill Toolen. During this time Sharon also had great fun and took great pride in working as an assistant Cross Country Track Coach with Head Coach Angelo Harris. Sharon loved to travel, was an avid reader and collector of books, a Master Gardner, an accomplished needle worker and seamstress, and a true animal lover. She found great joy in the company of her many cats. Her friends will remember her sense of humor, her (sometimes) biting wit and her fierce loyalty. Sharon was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. Her strong faith was steadfast and gave guidance throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents and her dearest friend “Ibby” Devine. She is survived by her many lifelong friends and will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 10am to 11am, with Mass of Christian burial starting at 11am at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church 251 North Craft highway Chickasaw, AL 36611. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery 1700 Dr. MLK Jr. Avenue Mobile, AL 36617
