Nancy Ann Gilbert, 70, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025.
Nancy was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on November 11, 1954, to Oscar Evert Abney and Crystal Jean Rowland. She graduated from Kokomo High School in 1973. After many years driving a school bus for Kokomo School Corporation, Nancy earned her nursing degree from Indiana University, then worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo and at dialysis clinics in Indiana, Arizona, and Mississippi. In later years, she taught nursing classes to high school and community college students.
Growing up, Nancy loved spending time paddling and swimming with friends on Bruce Lake. In 1985, Nancy married Max Eugene Gilbert, the love of her life. They spent many happy years together in Indiana, Arizona, and Mississippi. She loved her husband, children, and grandchildren fiercely. She was a smart, resourceful, and caring person who was a talented seamstress.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Max Gilbert, and her sister, Pamela Gunnell.
She is survived by two sons, Andrew (Stephanie) Cook and Jacob (Rikki) Gilbert; a daughter, Melody (Josiah Jensen) Coryell; granddaughters Amelia Coryell, Avie Coryell, and Rhys Gilbert; and her faithful dachshund, Heidi.
In keeping with Nancy’s wishes, there will be no service. The family suggests that those wishing to express sympathy consider making a donation to their local quilter’s guild or animal rescue in Nancy’s memory.
