Richard Forrest Schafer

Richard Forrest Schafer, a resident of Satsuma, Alabama, passed away June 25, 2022. He was 66 years old. 

Rick enjoyed living life to the fullest with his family. His greatest joy was being with the love of his life, Kim. She was his world. Rick was always at his best when his grandkids came over. He was Poppa, and always will be! He would always get excited when he heard that his sisters and brother were coming to visit. His siblings meant so much to him. Rick had a loyal friend, Danny Eakin, who was more like a brother to him. They loved picking at each other. He enjoyed the conversations with his son, Brandon, and their love for music. Rick cherished the loving gift that Brandon gave him and Kim, tickets to see the live Celtic Women concert. He also enjoyed giving his mother-in-law (maw maw) a hard time. He would tell his niece, Amanda, “You better tell her to stop picking at me!”. Rick was truly one of a kind. His grandson, Ellis, would tell him, “I love you, Poppa!”, and Rick would answer back to him, “I love you, Sadie, Westin, Cohen, and Preston more until the end of time”.

Richard is preceded in death by his mother and father, Betty Gregory and Wendell Schafer; and his brother, Randy Schafer.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 20 years, Kimberly Schafer; children, Richard Murphy (Erica), Kristine Dixon (Mark), and Brandon Marino; grandchildren, Cohen Timothy, Preston Timothy, Westin Dixon, Sadie Murphy, and Ellis Murphy; sisters, Connie Bridges, Caren Carter, Audrey Kirby (Robert), and Georgia Kirby (David); brother, Thomas Gregory (Mary); best friend, Danny Eakin; nieces and nephews; cousins; and many other relatives and friends.
