Robert V. "Bob" Kemp

Robert V. “Bob” Kemp, a devoted husband, father, and longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on April 17, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Mobile on December 3, 1944, to George Vernon Kemp and Clothilde Hamburg Kemp, Bob lived a life rooted in the community he loved, offering kindness, humor, and steady support to everyone who knew him.

Bob was a respected State Farm Insurance agent for over 30 years. Known for his integrity and dedication, he helped countless families navigate life’s unexpected turns. Outside of work, Bob was a man of many passions — he found joy in fishing, hunting, guns, working on cars, playing the guitar, and carpentry. Whether strumming a tune or fixing something around the house, he was always using his hands and heart to bring comfort and connection to those around him.

Above all, Bob was a caring and supportive spouse and father, always ready with a funny story, a gentle word, or a helping hand. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lydia Ruth Smith Kemp, and three of his children: Laura Kemp Cleveland, Matthew Coffey Kemp, and George Patrick Kemp. He is preceded in death by his brother Terry Kemp, his son Robert Terry Kemp, and daughter Ashley Jones Grad, whose memories he carried with deep love.

In keeping with his generous spirit, Bob donated his body to the University of South Alabama Anatomical Gifts Program, contributing to the education and training of future health professionals. Following the conclusion of these studies, he will be cremated and interred at Pine Crest Cemetery West. The program periodically holds memorial services to honor donors and offers students and faculty the opportunity to express their gratitude to families.

Bob's legacy lives on not only in his family, but also in the lives of the many people he helped, the stories he shared, and the lessons he passed down. He will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Mobile Funeral Home and Crematory at 690 Zeigler Circle West Mobile, AL 36608. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
