Samuel Knox, Jr., 71, of Minneapolis, MN passed away peacefully on February 1, 2023. He was surrounded by family in his home in Chickasaw, AL.
Samuel was born on September 7, 1951 to Lina Lee Knox (Townsend) and Samuel Knox Sr.
After graduating from high school, Samuel went on to serve in the United States Navy. He served during the Vietnam war.
Samuel was an accomplished professional baker for many years. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and friends at home and grilling at gatherings. Samuel was a volunteer park board wresting and football coach and state wrestling referee. Coaching was a very important part of his life. Through coaching and refereeing he impacted hundreds of young people's lives. He was a loyal Vikings fan who watched every game, and sported his team colors often. He was also an avid fisherman, having spent many days on Minnesota lakes and rivers. Moving to Alabama, he got to experience fishing the Gulf of Mexico. In his later years he grew to love gardening and taking care of his yard.
Samuel is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nina. He is survived by siblings, Stan, Dennis, Micheal, Joyce, Renee, Carol, Robert and Reginald; his children, Alicia, Chandell, Emmanuel, Matthew, and Samuel; grand children; and great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 21st, 2023 at 9:00am at Zion Baptist Church in North Minneapolis, 621 Elwood Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55411.
There will be a military graveside service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at precisely 11:15am meeting at assembly area #2. Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55450
Following both services there will be a repast at 12:30pm at the Elks Lodge in North Minneapolis. This will be a time for anyone to share their memories of Samuel Knox Jr. Elk Lodge: 1614 Plymouth Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55411.
