Stanley Dunnam Obituary

Stanley Ray Dunnam of Theodore, AL, passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday, January 11, 2022.  He was 85 years old.

Stanley enjoyed so many things.  Hunting and fishing with his children and grandkids were at the top of his enjoyment list.  Even if he wasn’t with them, he relished seeing pictures of his kids and grands catches and kills.  He was a true sportsman in the water and on the land.

Capt. Stan spent many of his years working as a private yacht captain.  He took great pride in keeping everyone onboard safe during fishing and boating trips. Behind the scenes he also took care of, maintained, and facilitated the maintenance of the boat he was employed by.  Some of his favorite places for boat trips were the Florida Gulf Coast, South Florida, and the Bahamas.  He also took many boats up the Mobile River over the years to make sure the next incoming hurricane didn’t destroy them. Stanley could fix almost anything, and he could figure out how to give the junkiest junk a new life.  With all his interests and smarts, he always had multiple projects he was working on.  Now that he’s no longer here to work on his projects, several of us will finish some of them up with the knowledge he instilled in us.

Stanley was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Gladys Moore Dunnam, and his beloved grandson, Benjamin Reeves Dunnam (Ben).  He was also preceded in death by his parents, Justin and Mildred; his brothers; Roberts, Raymond, and Douglas; his sisters in-law, Margie Dunnam and Mary Dunnam; and his brother in-law, Carl David Hagen.

Those of us left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Angela (Rocky) Holston, Linda McLester, and Jennifer (Ken) Stringfellow; sons, Paul (Robin), David (Patsy), Gary (Anita), Jeff (Debra), and Jonathan (Hope); and his siblings, Joan (Gordon) Garrett, Mike (Florence) Dunnam, and Wanda Hagen; 26 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; a whole host of nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends and loved ones.

A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Hayes Farm, 9854 Lancaster Road, Theodore AL.   Visitation will begin at 10am and his service will start at 11am, with a meal to follow for all who would like to join our family in fellowship and remembering.
