Stephen Ferguson Obituary

Stephen Edward Ferguson, born on December 16, 1957 passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile, AL. Steve was born and raised by his parents Irene (Olive) and Thomas (Pop) Ferguson in Lake Charles, Louisiana, along with his siblings Wayne, Mark, Glynn and Susan Ferguson Wilson.

Steve is survived by his mother and his loving and dedicated wife of 35 years, Cindy Ferguson and children Joseph B. Ferguson (Tessa), John Michael and Keith Allen O’Neill (Tabitha), Stephen E. Ferguson II (Sherri) and Melissa (TJ) Ferguson Sheffield. He was blessed to have 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and his mother-in-law Barbara Brewer.

Growing up in Louisiana, Steve enjoyed nature and the great outdoors. He hunted and fished and loved being near the water. His dream was to retire with his wife to a place on the water where they could fish and enjoy the tranquil life surrounded by nature.

Steve was an insulator by trade and a member of Heat and Frost Local 55 in Mobile, AL and a former member of Local 112 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  During his many years of employment, Steve and Cindy traveled all over the United States while he worked in many nuclear and power plants and installations providing for his wife and family. Steve was not afraid of hard work and demonstrated a work ethic that set an example for his children to follow.

When Steve met Cindy, it did not take very long for him to decide she was the one he wanted to share his life with. He left his life and job in Lake Charles, Louisiana and moved to Mobile, AL to be with Cindy and her two young sons. He helped raise Keith and Michael as his own and then they added a son, Stephen and daughter, Melissa to the family.  It was not always easy raising high spirted, stubborn boys but he stayed the course which made it a little easier when his last two children were born.

Steve was a proud father who loved to make memories and jokes.  His laid- back personality and quiet nature made it easy for them to come to him for reassurance and advice. He was the calm in their lives. He attended all of their school events, birthday parties and holiday celebrations.  He was a true family man who loved to play and crack jokes.

Steve will be remembered as a loving son, devoted husband, and best father and best paw paw. Until we meet again…….we miss and love you very much!!
