T.H. Tanner, a resident of Semmes, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022. He was born to Jessie H. Tanner and Sallie Tyson Tanner in Choctaw County on March 29, 1931.
T.H. enjoyed many sports during his lifetime, but none more than turkey hunting. He served his country in the United States Navy on board the aircraft carrier, USS Bon Homme Richard, during the Korean War. After his discharge he returned to Mobile, Alabama and worked at Brookley Air Force Base as a weapons instructor. He later built residential and commercial buildings for 35 years before retiring in 2005.
T.H. is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie H. Tanner and Sallie Tyson Tanner; his oldest son, Jerry A. Tanner; one brother, J. Fred Tanner; sister, Elizabeth Tanner Rascoe; 2 nephews, Richard G. Rascoe Jr and Samuel H. Rascoe Sr.; and 2 of his best friends, Stewart Foster and Jeff Bowen.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 70 years, Virginia Faye Tanner; son, Larry E. Tanner and his wife Sherry (Pippin) of Mobile; daughter, Wanda Tanner Smith of Semmes; son, Terry P. Tanner and his wife Deborah (Lott) of Chelsea; eight grandchildren, Darrell F. Smith Jr., Ambert Tanner Pierce (John), Shonda Smith Jones, Brandy Tanner Mornan (Matt), Megan Tanner Olson (Chad), Morgan Kai Tanner, Hunter Tanner Green (Chase), and Tanner C. Jennings; and eleven great- grandchildren, Ethan, Gavin, Zoe, Nate, Spencer, Karter, Teagan, Zeke, Kaydence, Dawson, and Zachary. T.H. is also survived by one brother, R.G. Tanner of Eight Mile; one sister-in-law, Loyce Benge of Pass Christian, MS; and many nieces, nephews, and relatives. In addition are good friends Curtis and Cil Jordan, and his turkey hunting buddy Tommy Smith.
A memorial service will be held at the Semmes Community Center on Monday, May 9, 2002 at 2:00 pm.
