Thomas Meador Obituary

Thomas Meador, age 71, a storyteller, lover of people and fun, was a native and life-long resident of Mobile. He attended St. Ignatius Catholic School, graduated from Murphy High School (1969) and the University of South Alabama (1973). He served in various capacities at W. M. Meador & Co., the family food brokerage, for his entire career. In 1976 he married Kathy Patton Meador, with whom he shared a life of love for 46 years.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, William Mahon Meador, Jr. and Ann Murray Meador. He is survived by his wife of 46 loving years, Kathy Patton Meador; children, Thomas Patton “Tripp” Meador (Jennifer) and Kathryn Meador Butts (Alan); along with nine grandchildren, Grace Davidson, Patton Camille Meador, Phillips Meador, Parks Meador, Beau Meador, Claire Butts, Madelyn Butts, Thatcher Meador and Pruitt Catherine Meador. He is also survived by his siblings, William “Billy” Meador (Cindy), Murray Meador (Anne), Richard “Sam” Meador (Debbie), Joseph “Joe” Meador (Gina), and Ann “Annie” Inge (Bill); mother-in-law, Sue Patton; sister-in-law, Pam Ezell (Jay);  brother-in-law, Timothy “Tim” Patton (Kelley); uncles, James Manson Murray (Marietta) and James Powell Meador (Lynn); aunt, Elizabeth Meador Inge; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Thomas had a love for many things: history, sports, crossword puzzles, Jeopardy and weekly trips to the grocery store to name a few.  He especially enjoyed entertaining his family and friends over the bay, at the beach and at his family hunting camp. Thomas lit up every room he entered with his wit and charisma. His ability to make others feel included and appreciated was truly special.  Thomas loved people and people loved him! He was a member of several mystic societies with whom he often shared an extensive repertoire of jokes and stories evoking much laughter.  His unselfishness devotion and love for his family, grandchildren and friends were unmatched. The happiness and fun he brought to others will be forever remembered and appreciated by all the lives he touched.
