Mrs. Vivian Annette Duke, a native of Gainestown, Alabama and a longtime resident of Satsuma and Saraland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2022 in the care of The Retreat Hospice surrounded by her beloved daughters and family. She was born May 25, 1935, to Dewey and Vivian Kittrell Syphrit.
Mrs. Duke was a member of Redemption Church (former First Baptist Chickasaw) for 69 years and became active in civic organizations in Saraland and Satsuma after moving to the area in 1960. Her joy came from family, church, friends, gardening, genealogy research, civic service, and her loving companion dog, Rosie. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Duke was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Elvin Duke; brothers, Calvin Syphrit and Billy Syphrit; and sister, Katherine Syphrit Bradford.
Mrs. Duke is survived by her daughters, Janice (Richard) Green of Grovetown, GA, Dana (Gaines) Allen of Daphne, AL, and Lynnelle (Jim) Kahalley of Saraland, AL; grandchildren, Mindy (David) Allen Stejskal, Peter (Rachel) Green, Jonathan (Vanessa) Green, Gabe (Cassie) Allen, Shelly Green, Hannah (Taylor) Kahalley Dreaden, and Spencer Kahalley; great-grandchildren, Walker Stejskal, Lucy Stejskal, Dak Green, Bodhi Green, Cash Green, Jude Allen, and Eve Green.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 10:30 AM until the 12:00 PM funeral service at Redemption Church, 1251 Industrial Pkwy, Saraland, AL 36571. Chaplain Major Richard Green and Pastor Seth Maggio will officiate.
Pallbearers are David Stejskal, Peter Green, Jonathan Green, Gabe Allen, Taylor Dreaden, and Spencer Kahalley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gainestown United Methodist Church, 16856 Waler Springs Road, Gainestown, AL 36540.
